Taste Testing the Cake

Caaaaaaaaake. Who can deny the powerful presence of cake? We eat it on our birthdays and after glorious meals at fancy restaurants. We eat it right after we’ve run a 5k as a reward even though we obliterate the entire workout. But it’s CAKE! And the one day it matters most? Your wedding day.
Two places in Austin stand out among the bajillion places you can order a wedding cake. If I were you, I would make an appointment with these fantastic cake makers.
Stardust Bakery
I met Summer Pruett, owner of Stardust Bakery, at a wedding this summer while I watched her put together a beautiful cake and create an elegant place setting for it. Her cakes are simple and they don’t take too much attention away from the bride. Perfect for couples who don’t want a crazy cake and desire something tasteful and tasty at the same time.

Fun fact: Summer studied at the French Culinary Institute.

She's known for her handmade sugar flowers. They can last a lifetime!

...what you'll see at a taste-testing. Let me recommend the vanilla bean cake with raspberry preserves. Delicious!

Michelle’s Patisserie
If you’ve ever desired a Jabba the Hutt wedding cake, don’t fret; go to Michelle’s Patisserie and watch your dreams come to life! Fishermen grooms go specifically to Michelle’s for trout cakes that look like the real deal. Scales and everything. But Michelle doesn’t just do the wacky... this versatile cake artist can also conjure up cakes that look like cakes. And nice ones too.

Look at the amazing detail. This lady's work has been featured on The Knot!

Try the dulce de leche cake. I am usually opposed to dulce de leche, but Michelle's has the perfect amount of sweetness!
