Beyond the Square Festival 2021

June 4, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - June 6, 2021 @ 10:00 am

Presented by Six Square — Austin’s Black Cultural District, Beyond the Square is a multi-day festival highlighting the multi-faceted talent of Black creatives. This year, they’ll celebrate Black Music Month all throughout June, starting with the unveiling of a new mural in partnership with Raasin in the Sun by Samara Barks featuring local musical icons Ernie Mae Miller and Margaret Wright, taking place June 4 at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard with music, refreshments, and an artist talk discussing the mural and legacy of Black Austin musicians.

On Saturday, they’re hosting a socially-distant concert at the Long Center, kicking off with DJ Kay Cali followed by local hip hop duo Magna Carda and headlined by Big Freedia. All night, attendees will be able to support Black-owned food trucks. On Sunday, June 6, Talib Abdullahi of Black History Bike Ride will lead a bike tour throughout the District starting at 10am at the Texas Music Museum.
