Les Blank Tribute: Chulas Fronteras

This special event with Les Blank’s 1976 documentary Chulas Fronteras includes musical guest Flaco Jiménez and filmmaker/artist Harrod Blank, the son of Les Blank, in person. Austin musicians Up Around the Sun will play in the lobby before the screening and artwork by Butch Anthony and Tim Kerr will be on display.

Les Blank’s Chulas Fronteras is a complex, insightful look at the Chicano experience as mirrored in the lives and music of the most acclaimed Norteño musicians of the Texas-Mexican border, including Flaco Jiménez and Lydia Mendoza. This film was selected by The Library of Congress to be added to the National Film Registry list. Presented in collaboration with The Bear, Design Build Adventure, and LAND.
