While summer is prime time for blockbuster theatrical releases — with films like “F1,” “Jurassic World Rebirth,” and “Superman” hitting theaters this month — there are plenty of movies worth catching at home, too. Here are some of the ones we’re most excited to stream in July, from the supernatural hit “Sinners” to the long-awaited comedy sequel “Happy Gilmore 2.”
“Sinners”

Ryan Coogler’s haunting period horror film made waves at the box office this spring, grossing $364.7 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. Set in 1932 Mississippi, twin brothers return to their hometown to escape their criminal past, only to confront an even darker evil. Michael B. Jordan plays both brothers in a dual performance, supported by Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku and Jack O’Connell.

“Happy Gilmore 2”

Nearly 30 years after the cult classic golf comedy, Happy Gilmore returns. Adam Sandler reprises his role, joined by original cast members Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller and Christopher McDonald, plus new additions including Bad Bunny, Sadie and Sunny Sandler and Margaret Qualley. Expect cameos from musicians like Cam’ron, Eminem and Post Malone, and golf stars including Rory McIlroy and Paige Spiranac.

“Better Man”

Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) directs this unconventional biographical musical about British pop star Robbie Williams. Williams narrates his own story, but as a CGI monkey, chronicling his rise with boy band Take That, his solo superstardom, and his personal struggles. The film aims to stand out in the crowded field of music biopics with its unique presentation and self-aware humor.

“The Shrouds”

David Cronenberg returns to his signature body horror with this unsettling drama that blends grief and technology. “Death of a Unicorn”

Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega lead this dark comedy from A24, which premiered at SXSW. A father-daughter road trip takes a bizarre turn when they hit a unicorn and discover its mystical properties. Directed by Alex Scharfman, the film blends horror, satire and family dysfunction in equal measure, and showcases Ortega and Rudd’s magnetic screen presence.

“Memoir of a Snail”

This Oscar-nominated stop-motion animated film from Adam Elliot (“Mary and Max”) follows a lonely misfit forced to rebuild her life after being separated from her twin brother. With voice performances by Sarah Snook and Kodi Smit-McPhee, the poignant tragicomedy mixes whimsy with emotional depth, delivered in Elliot’s signature handmade style.
