When ATX Chamber Music and Jazz CEO and Co-Artistic Director Geoffrey Herd was moving around the country early in his career, he kept trying to find friends in different spots: the CrossFit gym, salsa dancing groups, and work. But, the classical concert hall never lent itself to building community. Herd thought the Live Music Capital of the World was the perfect place to solve this problem.
“Austin loves live music and it’s an innovator in so many different fields,” said Herd. “Why couldn’t a new, innovative model for a social experience blending community and classical music work here?”
Herd and his wife, pianist Anna Petrova, got to work launching ATX Chamber Music and Jazz in September 2023. The concept is an innovative concert format that combines the artistry of the greatest living artists, think Branford Marsalis, Stephen Hough, the Juilliard Quartet and Hiromi, with engaging and stimulating social events. From whiskey tastings to cultural fairs to late-night after parties, and art exhibitions, attendees get to experience live music in engaging new ways.

“Only about 10 percent of first-time classical music concertgoers ever return,” said Petrova. “We think the missing link is the social element – combining extraordinary music with the opportunity to spend time with friends and make new ones promises a one-of-a-kind evening.”
To do this, Herd and Petrova create a welcoming, fun atmosphere for attendees to gather. They transform venues, with one side serving as a pristine concert listening space with a traditional stage and chairs, and the other side an upscale lounge where people can try the city’ s best cocktails, have delicious food and see and be seen.
“We work with some of Austin’s top event planners to create incredible social atmospheres,” said Petrova. “This season we are partnering with Here Nor There and the Roosevelt Room. Audiences who want to deepen their experience can join for a mixology masterclasses with the Roosevelt Room expert mixologists, or attend afterparties with the artists at Here Nor There’s secret downtown location,” said Petrova.”
The third season of ATX Chamber Music and Jazz kicks off Sept. 13 and runs through May 16, featuring an array of exceptional artists, from MacArthur Genius pianist Jeremy Denk, to jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman, to the Danish String Quartet. Settings vary from large spaces like the Paramount Theatre seating 1200, to The Mansion or Assembly Hall, which can host up to 250 people per set. The season also features three premium experiences in private residences across the city.
“These are ultra-intimate experiences with world-class artists,” said Herd. “Think of a private evening with only 80 to 90 attendees, up close and personal with a living legend in architecturally magnificent homes. These unique events, include valet, dinner, and an artist meet and greet.”
The season ends with a bang on May 16, 2026, at The Paramount Theater featuring Chucho Valdés, the towering figure of Afro-Cuban jazz. These events are sure to sell out, so it’s encouraged to get your tickets early.

At the heart of ATX Chamber Music and Jazz is the mission to make music as accessible as possible to everyone. The organization runs an Instagram group chat to help connect people who are looking to become part of the community and may not have anyone to attend concerts/experiences with. If you’d like to join, simply DM them on Instagram.
If you love live music, don’t miss these one-of-a-kind concert experiences.
