Misha Penton: Transparent Vulnerability

CAMIBAart Gallery
July 16th, 6pm

Artist Misha Penton is many things: a painter, sound artist, contemporary classical singer and writer. For her exhibition Misha Penton: Transparent Vulnerability at CAMIBAart Gallery, she called on her varied talents. The result is an installation featuring her watercolors, accompanied by a recorded audio element Penton composed specifically for the exhibition. “The watercolors,” Penton writes, “echo the ephemeral and transparent quality of my voice work: expressing something evanescent and not-quite-able-to-be-expressed in words.” On Saturday, July 16, that ephemeral quality will be elevated, when Penton, along with contrabassist Brent Fariss, will perform an experimental music work she has created, followed by a discussion with CAMIBAart co-founder and director Troy Campa. The performance, says Campa, will add an additional contemplative layer to the already dreamy installation: “the gentle sound of breath, whispered fragments of poetry, and soaring tones of voice.”Misha Penton: Transparent Vulnerability runs through July 30 at CAMIBAart Gallery in the Flatbed Press building. The performance and discussion on July 16 begins at 6pm. Tickets are free, but must be requested in advance. Visit camibaart.com for more information.
