Cheers to Five Years: Commodore Perry Estate Celebrates Austin Anniversary This Summer

This June, Commodore Perry Estate, the enchanting Austin retreat from the prestigious Auberge Resorts Collection, is raising a glass to five remarkable years of hospitality, heritage and growth.

Inspired by the traditional five-year anniversary symbol of sapphire — representing longevity, loyalty and good health — the Estate is debuting an exclusive anniversary cocktail: The Southside Sapphire. This jewel-toned creation is served in specially sourced sapphire-blue glassware to mark this milestone.

Lead Estate Bartender Sarah Rahl shares, “The inspiration behind the Southside Sapphire draws from the refreshing, garden-forward feel that defines our estate. We chose gin as the base for its crisp botanical notes, paired with fresh mint to evoke the brightness and renewal that come with spring in the garden. It’s a nod to growth—both of the Estate and our journey over the past five years.”

History of the Commodore Perry Estate

1928 marks the year “Commodore” Edgar Perry and his wife, Lutie, moved into their new 10,800-square-foot Mediterranean Revival-style mansion. Designed by renowned Texas architect Henry Bowers Thomson, the mansion was set on nearly 10 acres of lush grounds along Waller Creek in what was then Austin’s northern edge. Having made his fortune as a cotton broker in Europe before World War I, Perry brought his Dallas-born bride to Austin and built the estate with the stated intention of making Austin “a nicer place to live.”

In 2001, the estate was entered on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, it has served as home to at least seven private schools and hosted countless civic and social events. The estate, now owned by Auberge Resorts Collection, was reenvisioned as an intimate urban oasis, with a commitment to staying true to the property’s heritage as one of Austin’s architectural landmarks.
