This Labor Day Weekend, Austin is packed with events catering to all interests, from music and film festivals to sports and food celebrations. Whether it’s catching a live performance, indulging in local cuisine, or cheering on a favorite team, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are some standout events to add to the calendar this weekend:

For music and film lovers

The Front Festival

The Front Festival is a four-day showcase from August 28–31 featuring film and music showcases and pool parties, with proceeds benefiting The Creative Future of Texas Fund. The festival will take place across iconic Austin venues like The Contemporary Austin — Laguna Gloria and Antone’s Nightclub. One-day showcase passes are $20 each; individual pool party passes are $10. A weekend pass ($50) includes all events. Passes are free for Future Front members, with proceeds benefiting Future Front’s creative programs supporting local artists.

Paramount Summer Classic Film Series

Film enthusiasts can catch the final screenings of the 51st annual Paramount Summer Classic Film Series with a lineup that celebrates cinematic milestones. On Friday, August 29 the series features a screening of cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 9 p.m. Then, on Saturday, catch the 50th anniversary of the iconic documentary “Grey Gardens” at 3:30 p.m., followed by a 35mm print presentation of “Cabaret” at 7 p.m. Closing out this year’s series on August 31 is the “The Sandlot” at 3 p.m. and then a double feature of “Kill Bill Vol. 1” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2” presented by Robert Rodriguez starting at 7 p.m. 

Waterloo Records Grand Reopening Party

Waterloo Records, Austin’s independent vinyl record store, will celebrate the grand opening of its new location at 1105 North Lamar Blvd. on Aug. 30. The store, which moved five blocks north from its longtime home, will host an all-day event from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with live music, giveaways and commemorative gifts for early visitors. The celebration also marks the debut of the new ownership team’s reimagined space for artists, fans and the broader creative community.

Cool off at a hotel pool

Labor Day Weekend at Swim Club

From Friday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Sept. 1, Swim Club will celebrate the holiday weekend with free all-day pool access, DJ sets and happy hour specials. Additionally, they’ll host a Texas Longhorns vs. Ohio State watch party on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Austin Motel’s YeeHawties Honky Tonk Pool Party

The Austin Motel will host a honky tonk pool party on Sunday, Aug. 31, featuring performances by DJ Boi Orbison, Brigitte Bandit and others. The event runs from 2 to 6 p.m., is free with RSVP and open to ages 21 and older.

Sunset Cinema at Carpenter Hotel

Swim while watching a screening of “Everybody Wants Some!!,” director Richard Linklater’s spiritual successor to “Dazed and Confused,” starring Glen Powell, Zoey Deutch and Wyatt Russell, on Aug. 30. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the film begins at dusk. Guests are encouraged to bring their own float and towel. Snacks will be available for purchase.

For the sports fans

Texas Longhorns vs. Ohio State

The Texas Longhorns will face Ohio State in their season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff is at 11 a.m., with watch parties scheduled around Austin for fans to catch the game.

Austin FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Later that evening, Austin FC takes on the San Jose Earthquakes at Q2 Stadium. The match, starting at 7:30 p.m., offers another thrilling sports event for the weekend.

Celebrate local with food, shopping and community events

Austin Restaurant Weeks

Food enthusiasts can explore Austin Restaurant Weeks from August 29 to September 14. Enjoy specially priced meals and drinks at participating restaurants, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank.

Austin Flea at the Highball

Shoppers can explore unique finds at the Austin Flea market at The Highball on Aug. 30 from 1 to 6 p.m., featuring local makers, artists and vintage vendors. Offerings include apothecary goods, jewelry, original artwork and home items.

Barton Fest at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa

Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa will host a summer send-off on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring live music by Austin vocalist Ruthie Craft, food and drinks from local breweries and distilleries, and artisan vendors. The family-friendly event also includes kids’ activities such as balloon twisting, face painting and animal encounters. Admission is free, with food, drinks and parking sold separately.
