A recent multigenerational weekend getaway to the Hacienda Del Rio proved to be a memorable escape. Formerly known as the “Gruene Outpost River Lodge,” this property along the Guadalupe River has undergone a complete transformation to offer charming rooms and suites. While the exterior may not turn heads from the roadway at first glance, stepping inside reveals a thoughtfully redesigned space brimming with warmth, charm and Hill Country character providing a great spot to enjoy the best of Gruene and New Braunfels.

The newly renovated rooms are bright and stylish, featuring colorful tilework, handcrafted furniture and inviting touches that evoke the feel of a modern casita. One standout was a spacious family suite overlooking the river, complete with a bunk room tailor-made for guests with kids.

Activities for every age

The Del Sol Clubhouse & Bar offers a central hub for a family gathering. Mornings kicked off with fresh coffee and light breakfast bites, while afternoons and evenings brought games of shuffleboard, rounds of pool, and signature cocktails. The atmosphere strikes just the right balance between cozy and lively—perfect for both quiet conversations and group hangouts.

Across the property, a range of recreational amenities kept everyone entertained. Courts for pickleball, basketball and beach volleyball were a hit with the kids. Riverfront fire pits provided the ideal setting for grandparents to unwind and take in the scenery. The pool was also a great amenity with plenty of comfortable seating for both lounging and socializing.

Floating, paddling and fishing on the Guadalupe River
