E4 Youth gala will feature a special performance by Austin blues guitarist and songwriter Jackie Venson and the unveiling of a newly commissioned mural also featuring Venson. Created by E4 Youth alumna Litzy Rea Valdez, the mural and performance are symbolic of the event’s theme Transformation: Our Youth, Our City. “We are at a pivotal time for creative youth of color in Austin and around the world”, says E4 Youth Founder and CEO, Carl Settles. “This mural, created by an alumna with more than nine years of history with E4 and commemorating one of Austin’s emerging musical icons of Color represents a full circle moment. It’s symbolic of our collective efforts to provide nurturing spaces where our youth are empowered to embrace their stories while transforming the future.”
E4 Youth is a nonprofit that serves as a bridge between the workforce of tomorrow and the companies of today. The nonprofit aims to make BIPOC seen, heard, and hired in the creative and technology industries. The event highlights the accomplishments of creative youth from local Austin area high schools participating in E4 Youth’s enrichment clubs and the work of college-aged youth developing immersive content for the community storytelling platform What Once Was (WOW).
