Landmarks, the public art program of The University of Texas at Austin, announces the return of Sound in Sculpture. Established in 2015, the popular multidisciplinary event features student-composed music written in response to art in the Landmarks collection. Presented in partnership with Texas Performing Arts and the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music, this year’s program will take place on April 17 at 6:00 PM. The event is free and open to all.

Deniz AslanAshton Cartwright,Josíah Garza, andCecily Shield, all of whom are students at the Butler School of Music, will present compositions inspired by Eamon Ore-Giron’s Tras los ojos (Behind the Eyes), a large scale installation commissioned by Landmarks in 2023 for the Department of Psychology. The music will reflect a variety of styles and arrangements, with instruments ranging from percussion and trombone to flute and oboe.

The performance will be held in the lobby of the Sarah M. & Charles E. Seay Building where Ore-Giron’s work is sited. Visitors may park at the Speedway Garage, adjacent to the Seay Building, or at any other available UT garage.
