What
Imagine being inside the iconic “Austin” by Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015) before the museum opens, as winter’s light begins to fill the space.
Starting December 15, Morninglight offers the chance to do just that.
In what would have been Kelly’s centennial year comes this rare opportunity to experience the artist’s masterpiece like never before, through a special session of guided reflections, poetry, and quiet contemplation in this peaceful, joyful space. From May 2023 to May 2024, people across the globe are celebrating 100 Years of Ellsworth Kelly, and you’re invited to experience his most momentous artwork like never before, standing beneath its luminous windows — as the Blanton opens “Austin”’s doors early.
During Morninglight, you’ll step inside “Austin” before it opens to the public, as the stained-glass windows begin to glow. Director of Education and Academic Affairs Ray Williams and Director of Public Programs Kenyon Adams will share insight into Kelly and his masterpiece before guiding the small group through a serene and thoughtful experience.
Light morning refreshments in the Blanton’s Smith Building will be provided.
Proceeds from this special program support the care of “Austin” and other vital museum initiatives.
