Two local nonprofit organizations, the German Texan Heritage Society and Red River Cultural District, are proud to partner together this summer to host the inaugural German Auto Show on Saturday, June 8 along 10th Street in the Red River Cultural District.
Next month, guests of all ages will be able to explore an outdoor block party in front of the historic German Free School — one of the oldest buildings in downtown Austin. Considered one of the birthplaces of the Texas public school system, the School is a City of Austin Landmark, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and currently serves as the headquarters for the German Texan Heritage Society.
At the pop-up car show, more than 40 exotic German-made cars will be displayed featuring Porsche, Audi, Mercedes Benz, and more, with dozens of extremely rare and expensive vehicles being brought in for this one-day-only affair in addition to several new autonomous driving vehicles from Volkswagen.
Beyond the automobiles, car enthusiasts can enjoy live music performances inside the German Texan Heritage Society’s historic terraced gardens. German food fare will be available for purchase with authentic German beer being sold by the pint.
Tickets are on sale now, for just $10. Proceeds will be donated back to the German Texan Heritage Society to support year-round children’s programs like the German language education as well as to help offset costs for the restoration of the School’s historical staircase.
Stay tuned as more details surrounding Austin’s first-ever German Austin Show will be revealed soon. In the meantime, follow along on social media including @redriverculturaldistrict and @germantexans for future news and announcements.
