Chef Janelle Romeo, known for her popular East Austin food truck Shirley’s Trini Cuisine, will open her new fast-casual concept Twin Isle on Sept. 1 at 1401 Rosewood Ave. The women-owned, local restaurant celebrates the bold, comforting flavors of Trinidad and Tobago and the surrounding Caribbean islands with a scratch-made menu designed for both customizable bowls and shareable dishes.
Menu highlights include starters like Aloo Pie with tamarind sauce and Oxtail-Fries, flaky Rip + Dip Roti with dhal, roti wraps with curry chicken or coconut curry lobster, and sandwiches such as the Oxtail Sandwich and iconic Bake + Shark. Guests can also build bowls with bases like rice and peas or macaroni pie, topped with proteins including jerk chicken, stewed oxtail, or steamed fish, and finished with island-inspired sides like fried plantains and pineapple chow.
