What
Behind closed doors lies a world of mystery, passion, and true stories that inspired some of the most riveting pieces of chamber music. Join us for a literary-inspired evening with the renowned Dover Quartet and our 2024 Texas Poet Laureate, Amanda Johnston, in Words of Passion. Explore the depths of human yearnings as Johnston guides us through the turmoil that brings the music alive.
In the case of Schubert’s “Death of the Maiden”, the question of whether one should accept the will of Death when one’s time comes; in Turina’s “The Bullfighter’s Prayer”, the process of finding strength in the face of a life-threatening task; and in Janáček’s “Intimate Letters”, the reckoning with an unhealthy obsession. Never have these composers written anything more personal, or more vulnerable – and perhaps that’s what makes them truly great.
The musical performance will be preceded by a poetry reading by Amanda Johnston, a selection of French and Spanish wines, and delicious bites.
