Pavement Opens Vintage and Recycled Shop in Austin

If thrifting for retro gems gives you a rush, Pavement is your next must-see destination.

The Houston-based clothing store, specializing in a unique mix of new, recycled and vintage looks for men and women, hosted its grand opening on August 14th at its Austin store, located at 611 S. Lamar Blvd.

“We just want vintage to be accessible to everybody, even the really cool, special, rare pieces,” says managing partner Avery Robinson.

Pavement buyers and team members have been curating exclusive pieces for a year in preparation for the South Austin shop, keeping in mind the styles that would be best sellers for Austin customers.

“It’s not just about super current trendy pieces,” Robinson says. “Even those do sell; it’s also the bottom line, what do people actually want from us? In Houston, at least, we paid really close attention to what actually made it to the cash register versus what went on sale.”

Instead of digging through cluttered racks and shelves, this 10,000-square-foot retail space is designed to evoke a stylish boutique experience. From cowboy boots and denim to vintage gowns, shoppers can browse for a one-of-a-kind wardrobe with ease.

“We wanted the shopping experience to be easy,” she says. “We have a lot of clothing rounders on the sales floor and then clothing all along the walls. But everything is spaced out, and we try to keep the store very clean.”

Pavement is looking to expand its inventory and currently accepting chic, gently worn clothing, shoes, accessories and vintage items. Sellers can receive 35 percent cash or 50 percent of Pavement’s retail value of goods.
