Inside Mazúr, Rosedale’s New Coffee-and-Shopping Hangout
Sip specialty lattes while browsing women-owned apparel and home goods in one neighborhood spot
When living in Nashville, Melissa Mazúr, owner and founder of Mazúr Coffee & Boutique, enjoyed visiting a floral and coffee shop and thought the concept was friendly and inviting. Upon returning to her home state, Texas, she decided to create her version of the shop by combining a boutique with an Austin staple — a coffee shop.
Mazúr, which opened on Aug. 30, is located in the Rosedale neighborhood. The shop features Parisian-inspired decor with checkered tiles and bistro high chairs, allowing customers to dine and shop in a cozy, chic setting. The store’s decor and unique combination of coffee and clothing, jewelry and home goods is a result of Melissa’s aim to create a relaxing community space for people to bring friends and browse around while enjoying good coffee.
Supporting women
Having always worked for women-owned businesses, Melissa wanted the shop to focus on women’s empowerment. In addition to platforming local Austin women business owners through pop-ups and by platforming their creations, the shop uses styling to empower the women who walk into the store.
“I’ve seen people who may not try something because they’re a little scared about it. We offer it. We’re like, ‘Hey, I really think you should put this on. This would look wonderful on you,’” Melissa said. “They go home with it, and they’re like, ‘I never expected myself to like that one, and I feel really great in it’. That’s a very empowering moment … to be able to see people actually feel confident (in something) that they would never have tried on before.”
Quality clothing and beverages
When curating the boutique’s clothing selection, Melissa wanted to cater to women of a wide age range. Some of the clothing, such as tops with longer sleeves and hemlines, represents a more mature style, while other pieces, like denim A-line dresses and blouses from the UT burnt-orange collection, appeal to college-aged women.
“Mom and daughter can come and shop, anyone getting a unique outfit for work, a formal outfit, or a wedding guest outfit,” Melissa said. “I wanted it to be (so that) anyone can find something here.”
In addition to offering a variety of boutique items, Mazúr’s Coffee menu features numerous aesthetically pleasing and unique specialty beverages, such as their Pistachio Latte and Dreamsicle Latte, made with in-house syrups. For those seeking something familiar, the menu also includes coffee shop staples like almond croissants, cappuccinos and Americanos. To stay true to the store’s emphasis on community, the coffee is made from beans sourced from local Austin coffee roaster Desnudo Coffee.
“We’ve taken everything into consideration of what not only our customers would prefer, but what we think is quality and best,” Melissa said. “From the sourcing of our milk to our syrups and everything that goes into drinks is really thoughtfully chosen.”
Customer satisfaction
Since its opening, customers have shared positive feedback about their experience visiting the store. Melissa said customers have walked in intending to buy one item but walked out with three or four. She said they admire the pieces and their price points, and appreciate the store’s welcoming team.
“It’s been breathtaking and cool to see (people) come in as strangers, and leave as friends. They feel very welcomed in this homey little building we have,” Melissa said. “People leave very happy and surprised, and excited to see and look at all the little things that we’ve created and picked out for them.”
Mazúr Coffee & Boutique is located at 4207 Medical Parkway and open daily, with hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
