New on Burnet Road: Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex and Foxtail Cockatil Lounge Bring Flavor and Style to North Austin
These side-by-side concepts feature classic Tex-Mex dishes next to a swanky spot for an elevated drink
Two new additions are debuting on North Burnet Road this week, as Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex and Foxtail cocktail lounge officially open their doors on Thursday, Nov. 13. The side-by-side concepts come from Austin-based Carrier5 Hospitality, blending approachable neighborhood dining with an elevated yet unpretentious cocktail experience.
Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex
After winning over fans in Avery Ranch since 2022, Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex is expanding its warm, family-style hospitality. Designed by Stacy Whitworth Interiors and Hatch + Utland Owen Architects, the space pairs comfort with sophistication — bright terracotta tones, rustic wood textures, and hand-painted tile accents create a lively but relaxed atmosphere. Large arched doorways and splashes of cobalt blue lend a sense of charm, while lush greenery softens the space and connects the indoor dining room to its sprawling enclosed patio. Inside, the full-service bar features polished copper and patterned tile, inviting guests to linger over margaritas or one of Mama Betty’s signature frozen cocktails.
The Burnet Road menu offers classics: Mesquite-Grilled Fajitas, Suizas de Sandra Enchiladas, and a fiery Diablo Shrimp Quesadilla. Staples like Handmade Guacamole, Queso Compuesto, and Tejas Ceviche make perfect starters for sharing, while indulgent desserts — Flan, Tres Leches Cake and Bella’s Churros — round out the experience. Mama Betty’s offers walk-in-only service, keeping the energy casual and neighborly.

Foxtail Cocktail Bar
Just next door, Foxtail cocktail lounge brings a contrasting but complementary vibe — a moody, intimate lounge where time seems to slow down. With seating for just 58 guests, Foxtail is intentionally cozy. Its design layers old-world textures with modern polish: velvet banquettes, warm brass lighting, smoked mirrors, and deep walnut tones. A curated vinyl soundtrack adds rhythm to the room, blending subtle sophistication with Austin soul. The result is a cocktail bar that’s stylish but not pretentious.
Holiday Gift Guide
Foxtail’s menu highlights inventive craft cocktails like the Ristretto Martini, a spice-forward twist on an espresso martini; the Kitsune, an old-fashioned built on Suntory Toki Whisky, honey and bitters; and the Foxolada, a silky, coconut-forward riff on the piña colada dusted with nutmeg. Foxtail also offers a menu of refined, shareable bites, such as House-Toasted Ravioli.
Whether guests are chasing tacos under the patio lights or a perfectly stirred old-fashioned in a velvet booth, these new spots on Burnet Road are a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
