A Sixth Street corner café has a new name and a new spirit. Formerly known as Neighborhood Café, the space reopened Sept. 3 as Grá Mór, an Irish phrase meaning “big love.” The team behind New York’s acclaimed The Dead Rabbit pub has reimagined the space as a modern Irish café that shifts easily from morning coffee to evening cocktails.

Nestled in the historic Hannig Row building beside The Dead Rabbit’s Austin Taproom, Grá Mór offers about 44 seats in a light-filled interior designed as a companion to the pub next door.

Coffee, cocktails and Guinness too

The drink menu mirrors that day-to-night shift with cocktails like the Matcha Point (Ketel One vodka, lychee, matcha, cacao, and oat milk) and the Banana Cream Irish Coffee made with Teeling Small Batch whiskey, cold brew, and banana whipped cream. Both draw from flavors found on the café’s coffee and tea menu, blurring the line between daytime ritual and evening indulgence. Guinness naturally makes an appearance, joined by wines, ciders, and nonalcoholic choices such as Athletic Brewing’s craft beers. Every cocktail can also be made spirit-free.

“Grá Mór is our love letter to Irish café culture,” said Managing Partner Jack McGarry. “We wanted to create a space that feels like home, where people can gather over great food and coffee, and where guests can then pop in next door for a pint when the moment calls for it.”

The food menu balances Irish comfort with global influences, offering everything from Irish cheddar scones and apple crumble overnight oats to The Dead Rabbit’s signature sausage roll and Scotch egg. For something heartier, dishes like chilaquiles with Irish cheddar or a charred steak crunch bowl add more substance. Weekends bring indulgences such as hazelnut and cacao French toast, while a rotating selection of scones, chia puddings, and yogurt bowls keeps quick bites available for those on the go.

Creative lattes and matchas on the menu

Drinks are where the café leans playful. “I think Austin is such a social media-driven city. And people love to eat with their eyes first,” said lead barista Nadia Herrada. “We definitely wanted some visually stunning drinks, but of course you have to make them taste good.”

Among her favorites is the Garden Soda, a sparkling water beverage mixed with house-made strawberry-basil syrup. The Matcha Lychee Latte swaps the expected matcha-and-milk combination for organic matcha, coconut water, and lychee syrup. “It’s just really refreshing, great for Texas heat,” Herrada said. “It’s amazing and probably my personal favorite on the menu.”

Herrada also highlights the Banana Cream Cold Brew — topped with a thick, foamy layer dusted in cinnamon — and the Blueberry Crumble Latte, a showstopper with drizzled jam and vanilla cream. Nitro cold brew recently joined the lineup, rounding out a beverage program that also includes collaborations with Austin-based Virtue Juices.

Community connection is central to Grá Mór’s concept. Herrada said the team hopes to host everything from Dungeons & Dragons meetups to table reads for local film crews.

Located at 204 E. Sixth St., Grá Mór is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. More information is available at their website.
