German beer garden and restaurant Koko’s Bavarian is returning to Austin with a new brick-and-mortar beer hall set to open on South Lamar Boulevard this October, two years after the East Austin location closed.

The 7,000-square-foot space at 3003 S. Lamar Blvd. will feature long communal tables, a sprawling 2,000-square-foot patio shaded by live oaks and oversized screens for sports viewing. The concept draws from both Central Texas’ historic German culture and co-founder Konstantin Prinz von Bayern—the real-life Bavarian prince known as Koko.

“Here in Central Texas, where German roots run deep, it’s an honor to share a legacy that connects my family’s history with the region’s rich traditions,” Koko said in a recent press release. “Our goal is to create a space that feels true to that heritage: long tables, high energy and crowds brought together over sausages, pretzels and authentic Austin vibes.”

What’s on the menu

The food program will expand beyond the brand’s signature Bavarian pretzels, Belgian-style fries and specialty sausages to include wings, mozzarella sticks, whitefish dip, hot dogs, salads and sandwiches such as cheeseburgers and fried bologna. The bar, curated by Travis Tober of Nickel City and Murray’s Tavern, will offer frozen drinks, cocktails and an extensive beer selection.

Koko’s Bavarian first opened on East Fifth Street in 2021 as a brewery, beer garden and restaurant, but the location closed in summer 2023 for renovations and never reopened. The brand has since shifted toward entertainment venues, launching stands inside the Moody Center on the University of Texas campus in 2022. Today, Koko’s operates more than 70 locations at arenas, concert halls and festivals in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.
