The Contemporary Austin is hosting sci-fi movie nights at their gorgeous Laguna Gloria Amphitheater during the month of July. Walk the grounds and enjoy the artwork, including Tom Friedman‘s unearthly “Looking Up” sculpture, before settling in for the after-hours showings of the best extraterrestrial-themed fictions.

Alamo Drafthouse, Through August 1

Up Next: Kung Fu Panda, The Never Ending Story & Wallace and Gromit

This donation-based series is the ultimate destination for inexpensive, kid-friendly fun. Taking place at Alamo Drafthouse locations throughout Austin, 100% of the proceeds go towards local nonprofits, including ATX Kids Club, Kids in a New Groove and Special Olympics Texas.

Poolside Cinema

The LINE Hotel, Through August 6

Up Next: The Getaway

In partnership with Austin Film Society, Austin’s new LINE Hotel is inviting everyone out to their free splashy film series. Before the show, DJ Billie Buck and Nick Fong will be spinning beats as guests kick back on the gorgeous pool deck overlooking Congress Avenue and Lady Bird Lake.

Republic Square Park, Through August 8

101X is returning to downtown’s Republic Square for Summer Cinema, taking place every other Thursday! With this season’s action-packed lineup, make sure to get there early with blankets and lawn chairs in hand for the best movie views.

Long Center, Through August 14

Up Next: Guardians of the Galaxy

Can’t decide between a chill movie night or fun concert? Get the best of both worlds at the Long Center’s annual Sound & Cinema. Hosted for free on the terrace and lawn, local musicians will treat the audience to live show before fan favorites are projected onto a massive, inflatable screen. A variety of delicious food trucks will also be available!

Jaws on the Water

Volente Beach Resort, Through August 17

This shark extravaganza is a truly one-of-a-kind viewing experience. Held at Volente Beach Resort, visitors are welcome to enjoy the waterpark’s many pools before catching a showing of “Jaws” while floating on the water as the sun sets. To add to the thrill, a team of scuba divers will be lurking below, with a firework show to cap off the night.

Every year Austin Parks Foundation hosts free watch parties in different neighborhood parks around town. Communities are welcome to bring out friends and friendly pups for a film under the stars. While picnics are allowed, there are also food trucks onsite for a full evening of fun.
