While August’s theatrical lineup includes Matthew McConaughey in “The Rivals of Amziah King,” the Anthony Bourdain biopic “Tony” and the Anne Hathaway-led sci-fi adventure “The End of Oak Street,” there are plenty of movies worth catching at home, too. Here are six we’re most excited to stream this month, from the long-awaited sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2” to the breakout horror hit “Obsession.”
“The Devil Wears Prada 2”

Nearly 20 years after “The Devil Wears Prada” premiered, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reunite for a sequel set in a fashion industry that looks very different from the one they left behind. After losing her journalism job, Andy Sachs returns to Runway as its new features editor, putting her back under Miranda Priestly’s scrutiny. The sequel brings back the high-fashion spectacle, glamorous runway sequences, sharp industry satire and Meryl Streep’s unmistakably dry wit.
“Obsession”

One of the year’s biggest independent horror successes is now available to watch at home. Curry Barker’s feature debut follows a lonely music store employee who uses a mysterious object to wish that his longtime crush would fall in love with him. What begins like a familiar romantic fantasy quickly becomes a gruesome story about entitlement, control and getting exactly what you asked for.
“Blue Heron”

Sophy Romvari makes her feature debut with this family drama set on Vancouver Island in the late 1990s. Eight-year-old Sasha and her Hungarian immigrant family hope the move will offer a fresh start, but her eldest brother Jeremy’s increasingly dangerous behavior places the household under growing strain. As her parents face an impossible decision, the film moves between childhood memory and adult hindsight to examine how trauma reshapes a family’s understanding of the past. “Blue Heron” has already earned several honors, including the Best Canadian Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“The Drama”

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya star as a seemingly perfect engaged couple whose lavish wedding week begins to unravel when a drunken round of “What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?” leads to an explosive confession. Writer-director Kristoffer Borgli (“Dream Scenario”) turns the fallout into a darkly funny and deliberately uncomfortable look at how much we really want to know about the people closest to us.
“Normal”
Streaming August 14 on HBO Max
Bob Odenkirk plays an interim sheriff hoping for a quiet reset in a small Minnesota town, only to stumble into a botched bank robbery and a conspiracy involving nearly everyone around him. Written by “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad and directed by Ben Wheatley, “Normal” steadily turns its sleepy setting into a bloody, offbeat action comedy.
“The Last House”
Streaming August 7 on Netflix
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura star as parents who wake to find their home mysteriously sealed, leaving the family trapped with no explanation and dwindling supplies. As panic sets in, the question shifts from how they will escape to who — or what — is keeping them inside. Directed by Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me,” “Fast X”), “The Last House” trades his usual blockbuster scale for a tightly wound sci-fi thriller rooted in domestic paranoia.
