Go International at SXSW

The craziness that is SXSW is officially in motion. From full-day boisterousness on nearly every city block to food trucks galore to some of the best activations yet (We see you New Japan Islands), there’s plenty to explore for those who snagged a badge this year. But, if you’re really looking to go the distance, make sure you check out the international pop-ups that have landed in Austin. At SXSW, it really is a small world after all.

Casa Brasil

This week, travel south-of-the-border at Casa Brasil, located at 206 E. 4th Street. Get to know Brazilian makers and industry innovators, learn about the country’s fast-paced music scene and hear from Fableware’s Arthur Protasio, Gravidade Zero’s Fred Reis and Flex Interativa’s Fernando Godoy in a panel on the Brazilian gaming industry. Casa Brasil will be providing daily breakfast as well.

House of Scandinavia

Hop a pedicab to Europe and head to the House of Scandinavia, put on by Scandinavian Airlines, at 1111 Congress Ave, with talks featuring some of the best tech companies in Gothenburg, sometimes referred to as Sweden’s Silicon Valley, on the future of mobility, autonomy and transportation. Also, three renowned Scandinavian chefs, Paul Svensson Atli Màr Yngvason and Kamilla Seidler will be serving up a plant-based three-course or nine-course menu at Lokal, the temporary House of Scandinavia restaurant.

British Music Embassy

The British Music Embassy is back for its 12th year at SXSW at Latitude 30 at 512 San Jacinto Street. Until March 16, listen to performances by 58 UK artists including The Howl and The Hum, Grace Carter, Penelope Isles, Willie J Healey and more presented by BBC Music Introducing and BBC Radio 6. In addition to the events at Latitude 30 and throughout the city, check out Naho Matsuda’s visual masterpiece, Every Thing Every Time, at Brush Square Park. The piece takes real-time data from digital platforms during SXSW and turns it into poetry, spitting out 1,400 poems a day.

German Haus at Graeber House

Raise a glass this year at the German Haus through March 14. Enjoy daily programming on topics such as immersive tech and new technologies, how to achieve a gender balance in the music sector and AI in music. On March 13, let loose for Wunderbar Music Day at 405 W. 7th Street. Additionally, German musicians such as Berlin’s Alice Phoebe Lou, Catnapp and Emma Elizabeth will perform along with Munich’s Gaddafi Girls and the Jazzrausch Bigband among others.

Australia House

Grab your mates and head to the Australia House presented by G’Day USA, located at 77 Rainey Street. Dance all day and night to more than 50 artists including Tempesst, Grace Turner, Kwame, Lola Kirke and Sam Fender. Plus, get ready for panels from leaders in film, music and innovation.
