Austin’s Own Parker Woodland to Release Debut Album with Performance at Mohawk Austin
Local rock trio blends punk, pop and social activism in their latest release, "There’s No Such Thing as Time"
Austin-based rock band Parker Woodland is set to release their first full-length album, There’s No Such Thing as Time, on Friday, September 6, through Flak Records. The album, which blends elements of punk, pop, and psychedelic sound, delivers a collection of anthems that explore themes such as social justice and personal resilience.
To celebrate their album’s release on Friday, Sept. 6, Parker Woodland will perform a 5 p.m. Waterloo Records in-store followed by a sold-out show at Mohawk Indoors, with special guests Tim Kile, formerly of Arcade Fire, Jammy Violet of Pelvis Wrestley and Christian Kyle of Schatzi. Due to high demand, an additional show on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. has been added, featuring performances by Tim Kile and Cobra Cats.
Parker Woodland’s contributions to the local music scene will be recognized by the Austin City Council, which will declare September 12 as Parker Woodland Day in honor of the band’s commitment to the community.
Formed at the intersection of Parker Lane and Woodland Avenue in Austin, the band consists of Erin Walter (vocals, bass), Andrew Solin (guitar), and Keri Cinquina (drums). Their roots were planted five years ago when Walter, driven by a passion for community and social justice, founded the band after connecting with Cinquina, who had been playing in rock bands since the age of 14. The duo formed a strong rhythm section before bringing in Solin as a guitarist and songwriting collaborator, further solidifying their musical partnership.
Austin’s rising indie rockers
Parker Woodland has since become a prominent presence in Austin’s indie music scene. Their work has been recognized by local publications such as the Austin American-Statesman, the Austin Chronicle, and Austin Woman, and has received airplay on NPR, Austin City Limits Radio, and KUTX. The band is known for its socially conscious lyrics and energetic performances, having played at major events like SXSW and Peace Fest, sharing stages with artists like Willie Nelson and local bands Peelander-Z and A Giant Dog.
“This is a record for anybody who needs joy,” says drummer Keri Cinquina. “We want to be a light in someone’s day.” Walter adds, “A sense of community is one of our greatest achievements in our live shows and our music. I love when people are inspired to jump on stage with us, or those moments when the whole crowd is singing ‘You know who you are and you don’t owe them anything!’ Everyone deserves to feel loved for who they are.”
The album, produced by Brent Baldwin and recorded at Matt Parmenter’s Ice Cream Factory Studio, represents a significant step in Parker Woodland’s development, with tracks addressing important issues like climate change and trans rights, while also offering moments of hope and celebration.
