Whether you love art, history, science or just being outside, there’s a museum in Austin where you can get your fix. And this Sunday as part of Austin Museum Day you’re welcome at more than 38 of our city’s cultural institutions … for free!
Brush up on Texas history at the Bullock Museum downtown or sing along to the songs of the Lonestar State at the Texas Music Museum. Is American presidential politics more your thing? Stop by the LBJ Presidential Library on the UT campus. If you need some fresh air this weekend, stroll through 14 acres of gorgeous gardens at Laguna Gloria on the shores of Lake Austin and explore their sculpture collection. Or experience what life was like in Central Texas back in the 1800s at Pioneer Farms – though the air there may have more of a barnyard aroma. If you prefer the smell of books, check out The O. Henry Museum at the former home of the beloved storyteller.
Many of the museums will have special programming and guided tours of their exhibits on Sunday.
There is so much to experience at Austin museums, and this Sunday is the day to enjoy free admission so you can save your money for a souvenir. But if you prefer to earn your keepsake and have an eye for photography, enter the Instagram contest by posting a pic from your Austin Museum Day visit. Check out a full list of participating museums and how to enter the photo contest here. And enjoy your Sunday out.
