Blue Suede Brings Their Stylish and Approachable Shoe Store to South First Street

There is more fashion to be found in South Austin now that Blue Suede has opened its doors to local shoe-lovers. Created by friends and business partners Jennifer Parkman and Cynthia McMillioan, the women-owned boutique offers a thoughtfully curated selection of designer shoes, handbags and jewelry, while also inviting visitors to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, beer or coffee as they look around.

As much as we’re all delighted to find a shoe we love, the process of procuring one can often be daunting. Blue Suede, which opened on Jan. 10, aims to fix this problem. In their relaxed and inviting environment, shoppers will be able to try on footwear without the help of a salesperson and have all their options on display right in front of their eyes. The no-pressure attitude allows women to discover what works for them at their own pace, while also relishing the food, the warm company and the walls adorned with artwork from female artists.

“I have spent a lot of time over the years sharing my idea with friends, asking them ‘Shoes plus wine, right?’ and the answer has always been ‘Yes!’ This is something I am very proud to finally bring to life,” shares Parkman. “My biggest challenge is not keeping a pair of every shoe style for myself. My co-founder Cynthia tells me I’m already losing that battle! We have worked hard to make the atmosphere in Blue Suede warm and comfortable, hoping to encourage customers to stay for a while and enjoy.”

An array of alcoholic beverages and small bites are available for purchase in the cozy Blue Suede lounge. Beer and cider from Austin Eastciders and Austin Beerworks and a small wine list featuring reds, whites, rosés and sparkling offerings are available, while cheese boards made with Antontelli’s Cheese are also on the menu. You can find Sunday mimosas available by the carafe or glass, as well as hot and iced coffee from Austin Roasting Company.

While the friendly atmosphere is certainly appealing, the real draw remains the selection of gorgeous and luxurious shoes. The assortment of notable designers includes Dolce Vita, Seychelles, Matisse, Donald Pliner, Yellow Box, Tamaris, Jeffrey Campbell and Valentina (personally sourced from Italy) to ensure a quality footwear selection that is full of personality.
