New York-based specialty coffee company Black Fox Coffee will make its Texas debut May 15 with a new cafe in downtown Austin. The opening brings the brand’s elevated coffee program to ATX Tower, along with rare reserve coffees and complimentary Flat Whites for the first 200 guests on Friday and Saturday.

Founded in 2016 by Australian natives Daniel Murphy and Gary Hardwick, Black Fox Coffee has built a following in New York City for its thoughtfully sourced coffee program and collaborations with specialty roasters around the world. The Austin opening marks the company’s first expansion outside New York.

“Since the beginning, our mission has always been to make remarkably good coffee experiences accessible to all,” Murphy said in a recent statement. “Austin is a city that shares our values of quality and craftsmanship, and we’re excited to bring the Black Fox experience here.”

At the new downtown cafe, guests can expect a menu of classic espresso drinks, seasonal beverages and pastries from Swedish Hill. Drinks and pastries will be served on custom ceramic pieces from Denmark-based MK Studio Ceramics, while locally made merchandise and exclusive ceramicware from Austin-based Hey Moon Ceramics will also be available in the shop.

Opening weekend perks and rare reserve coffees

To celebrate the opening weekend, the first 200 guests on both Friday and Saturday will receive a complimentary Flat White, the Australian-born espresso drink Murphy and Hardwick selected as a nod to their home country.

The Austin location will also debut Black Fox Coffee’s new Editions Program, a single-serve pour-over experience exclusive to the cafe. Served at a dedicated reserve bar using the Swiss-made Tone Touch brewing system, the program features a rotating lineup of six rare coffees sourced from Black Fox’s own roastery and internationally recognized roasters.

According to the company, the coffees are hand-sorted, rested and frozen at peak freshness before being brewed to order. The inaugural lineup includes geshas and other rare varietals with flavor profiles ranging from bright and fruit-forward to more refined and floral, highlighting experimental fermentation and modern coffee-processing techniques.

Designed conceptually by architecture and interiors firm Mitchell & Eades, with EMADI serving as the local executive architect, the Austin cafe has a sleek, modern design, with a large central counter anchoring the space, high ceilings and a sculptural light installation by San Francisco-based White Dirt Studios.

Black Fox Coffee opens Friday, May 15, at 321 W. Sixth St. in downtown Austin. For more information, visit the company’s website or Instagram page.
