Tiny Grocer Turns 1!

The South Congress market is throwing a free party to celebrate its first year on the block

By Holly Cowart

In March of 2021, Steph Steele realized her dream by opening Tiny Grocer, a neighborhood market filled with a finely curated selection of small batch and specialty goods. The clean black and white exterior is a perfect fit on buzzing South Congress Avenue, nestled in between June’s All Day and Neighborhood Sushi. Tiny Grocer is also home to a deli, coffee bar and walk-up window for orders on the go, making it a truly one-stop shop.

Opening her grocery store mid-pandemic, Steele’s wealth of experience — over 25 years managing Whole Foods locations before directing for Bunkhouse Group and later MML Hospitality’s Swedish Hill, to be exact — helped her seamlessly take over the former Farm to Market Grocery space while continuing to uplift her everyday community and highlight locally-owned businesses.

To commemorate its very first anniversary, Tiny Grocer is throwing a free birthday bash — and they’re bringing lots of friends. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 30, the public is invited to stop by the market’s back parking lot to shop and sample products from more than 20 Austin-based vendors.

Sip on Yoshi-Cha Tea from the illustrious omakase restaurant Otoko; stay energized all day with High Brew Coffee; and find out if Kin Euphorics’ non-alcoholic drinks really live up to the hype (spoiler alert: they do). Other onsite shopping opportunities include pop-ups from Gati Ice Cream, Heirloom Provisions, So Gay Rosé, The Soap Designer, Earlybird CBD and much more.

Since opening, Tiny Grocer has prioritized sustainability, ethical practices and entrepreneurs from its own community, and this makes for the perfect time to celebrate its impact. For more details, head to their Instagram at @tinygroceratx.
