The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off Thursday, June 11, with Mexico taking on South Africa in Mexico City, followed by South Korea vs. Czechia later that day. The United States begins its run Friday, June 12, against Paraguay. This year’s tournament is the biggest in World Cup history, bringing 48 men’s national teams to the field for 104 matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament runs through July 19, with the final set for New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

For fans watching from home, matches will air on Fox and FS1, with streaming available through Fox One. But for those who want the full game day atmosphere, Austin has no shortage of lively places to watch the games.

The Tavern

922 W 12th St.

The Tavern has been part of Austin’s sports-watching culture for generations. Located just off North Lamar, the long-running neighborhood pub has 30 televisions, dark wood bars, floor-to-ceiling windows and a dog-friendly deck. Game day menu staples like Texas brisket queso, wings, burgers and hot dogs make it a comfortable place to post up for a full match. Since 1933, The Tavern has been known for cold beer, hearty food and, famously, air conditioning — a detail that still feels essential during a summer tournament in Austin.

Chalmers

1700 E Cesar Chavez St.

Chalmers is a good East Austin pick if you want a watch party that still feels a little different from a standard sports bar. Set in a revamped, West Texas-inspired gas station, the bar has large screens, indoor and outdoor space, and a central bar made for posting up during the match.

B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub

For an Irish pub atmosphere, B.D. Riley’s in Mueller is a fitting spot to watch the World Cup unfold. The locally owned pub plans to show every match live, with Guinness, fish and chips and a lively crowd to match the tournament’s energy. The space includes 11 televisions, including three bright outdoor displays on dog-friendly patios. Tables can fill quickly, so fans should plan to arrive early for big matches.
