Austin Playhouse’s 2026 Festival of New Texas Plays returns Aug. 15-16 with staged readings of three new works by Texas playwrights Emilie Budjaja, Carl Gonzales and Kleo James Ryan. Held at Austin Playhouse, the annual festival celebrates works-in-progress and supports the development of new plays through staged readings and post-show talkbacks with each playwright.
The festival lineup includes “ACES” by Emilie Budjaja at 4 p.m. Aug. 15, “Lulu Goes to the Jim Henson Memorial Service” by Kleo James Ryan at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 and “Mom and Pop” by Carl Gonzales at 2 p.m. Aug. 16. An opening mixer with light refreshments will take place between Saturday’s performances, while Sunday’s reading concludes with a closing reception.
Tickets are available on a pick-your-price basis, including a limited number of free tickets for each performance.
