Getting to Know Fine Jewelry Designer Savannah Friedkin
The Texas-born designer offers sustainable, elevated pieces with a beautiful underlying message
Inspired by the journeys of the most important women in her life, Savannah Friedkin looks to merge the beauty of life’s challenges with her passion for conservation and protecting the environment. It’s here that Friedkin finds where her purpose and passion meet to form her legacy: Savannah Friedkin.
“My collections are inspired by my journey, as well as how other women overcome challenges and the strength we show through vulnerability,” said Friedkin. “This has led to the inspiration behind two of my collections – the Broken Collection and the Emergence Collection.”
Friedkin always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur in the fashion and fine jewelry industry, but she wanted to ensure that whatever venture she started aligned with her values. As she began researching carbon neutral lab-grown diamonds, she knew she had found her answer. The traceability and transparency around their production, along with their minimal impact on the environment, was an immediate fit. This compelled Friedkin to dive deeper into this outlet that allowed her to express a simultaneous love for design and the planet.
“The entire line is entrenched in mindfulness,” said Friedkin. “There was just this voice in my head that never went away that said I belonged in this space, that I needed to work in this space.”
Pairing her business school background with her passion for conservation, she started her eponymous jewelry line: Savannah Friedkin.
“The ultimate goal with my brand is to create a dialogue about how we produce and wear jewelry because that reflects how we think about ourselves,” said Friedkin. “This dialogue has been happening in the apparel industry for years, so I wanted to spark something similar in the jewelry space around production and sourcing.”
All of Friedkin’s pieces are made from 100% certified recycled precious metals and climate neutral lab-grown diamonds, minimizing the impact on the environment. Friedkin and team personally visit their partners and manufacturers to witness and audit their practices. Her goal is to ensure these partners use renewable energy sources, provide fair labor practices, and ethically handle all aspects of the manufacturing process.
As for the handcrafted jewelry, Friedkin says her pieces are perfect for everyday or special occasion accessorizing. The three collections are inspired by women and their unique journeys, marked by life’s highs and lows.
The Broken Collection features 19 styles. Through this Collection, Friedkin hopes to change the perception of brokenness, with a motif that exemplifies the beautifully broken characteristics that define us as individuals.
The Emergence Collection includes five styles. It’s inspired by the idea that we emerge from challenges stronger than ever before.
“When designing the Emergence Collection, I was inspired by the way plants grow on the sides of buildings, in cracks of sidewalks and other unexpected places,” said Friedkin. “You can thrive anywhere, and you will emerge more beautiful and vibrant than ever.”
The third collection is The SAV Collection, which features five styles and focuses on the charm of simplicity and captures the ethos of Friedkin’s brand. She predicts adding to these three collections as the backbone of her brand in the future, rather than launching new ones.
