How Komal Sheth of Spaces Designed Created a Playful Yet Sophisticated Northwest Austin Home
A blank-slate home becomes a warm, layered retreat designed around family life
When the current owners, a busy young family, moved into the Bamford Drive home, it was a blank slate. With help from Komal Sheth, local award-winning real estate adviser and principal interior designer at Spaces Designed, that quickly changed. The family wanted a full interior transformation that felt personal and intentional. Sheth says the process that followed was very collaborative.
The home became a character-filled space that balances comfort and elevated style, all while thoughtfully supporting the lifestyle of a young family. The new look blends an aesthetic that is both elegant and functional, resulting in what could be described as “playful sophistication.”
According to Sheth, the design approach focused on creating a cohesive home that combines refinement with everyday ease — a must whenever designing with multiple generations in mind. “The homeowners gravitate toward spaces that feel warm, inviting and livable, with a deep appreciation for thoughtful details,” Sheth says. “Their openness to texture, pattern and subtle color allowed the design to evolve into something layered and personal rather than minimal or trend-driven.”
Thoughtful details throughout
Soft, warm neutrals formed the foundation, but layering textures served as the guiding principle. “The transformative power of texture was especially impactful,” Sheth says. “Wall coverings, fabrics and finishes elevated spaces that initially felt flat, reinforcing how meaningful thoughtful layering can be.”
Pastels were introduced in the children’s spaces to create environments that feel soothing yet playful. The girls’ bedrooms and adjoining custom-designed playroom blend whimsical wallpaper and vibrant art with functional built-ins, scalloped valances, Roman shades and cozy reading nooks. Rugs and display frames were intentionally chosen so the children can rotate and showcase their own artwork, creating interactive and adaptable spaces that grow with them.
Every element, including furniture, artwork, accessories, window treatments and finishes, was hand-selected to ensure cohesion and a distinctive character throughout the home. The indoor-outdoor areas were thoughtfully integrated to enhance flow, light and usability — from the furnishings to the plant selections and beyond.
“We didn’t rush into things, but rather waited to find the right pieces, textures and accessories,” Sheth says. “We also have a great team of painters, carpenters, electricians and installers who all help us bring our projects to life under Komal Sheth Homes, and we are very grateful for our team.”

While this Bamford Drive beauty is certainly unique and tailored to its owners, Sheth notes the project is representative of a larger trend across Austin real estate and design.
“The Northwest Austin neighborhood reflects a broader transformation happening throughout the area, where older homes are being reimagined into thoughtfully designed, modern residences,” Sheth says. “This setting embodies Austin’s signature balance of relaxed living and refined taste. That duality became a guiding influence — creating a home that feels elevated yet approachable, layered but never overdone. The interiors were designed to complement Austin’s lifestyle: comfortable, creative and quietly sophisticated.”
