Austin Restaurant Honey Moon Spirit Lounge Opens on 34th Street

When life gives you lemons, make lavender lemonade.

Adrienne Wiggins and Reed Calhoun did just that — and much more — when their wedding and honeymoon plans were put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, they worked on creating a new restaurant and cocktail lounge. Their labor of love, Honey Moon Spirit Lounge, opened this week.

What’s on the menu? An extensive list of elevated comfort food, decadent sweets, creative cocktails, wine and other refreshing drinks — including that lavender lemonade, which you can order still or sparkling.

“Reed and I are so thrilled to bring this little love child, Honey Moon, to the Austin community,” co-owner Wiggins says in a press release. “Keeping the funky, quirky vibes of Austin alive is so important to us, and we can’t wait to share that with y’all!”

Located at 624 West 34th Street, Honey Moon has indoor dining, patio and bar seating. The interior is “French antique-inspired” and “designed to invoke a feeling of whimsical escapism through jewel tones and dramatic lighting, studded with thoughtfully curated antiques throughout the space,” the announcement states. Wiggins and Calhoun procured the antiques and chandeliers that make up their décor from Round Top, La Grange and New Braunfels.

The kitchen is run by Executive Chef Manuel Rocha, who’s creations include Koji-aged steak frites, duck fat-fried Seoul hot chicken and vegan barbecue burnt ends.

Diners can follow up these savory dishes with bourbon applejack hand pie; Guanaja dark chocolate tart or toasted marshmallow, coconut and chocolate ganache.

Bar Manager Mallory Valentine also has some tricks up her sleeve – including the refreshing Honey Moon Margarita made with Cimarron Tequila, dry curacao, lime, agave and herbed salt. Along with other witty concoctions, like the Mezcal-centric Shady Lady and the Aloe’N Together, there’s much more to choose from, including wine, beer and ciders.

Honey Moon is now open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they’re open until 11 p.m. Check out the full menu and make a reservation to pay Wiggins and Calhoun a visit, and make sure wish the couple well on their Honey Moon.
