As we get ready to say goodbye to this turbulent year, there’s no doubt that the New Year countdown in Austin will be unforgettable. Although annual traditions and iconic festivities may be canceled, there are still a handful of ways to ring in 2021 as safely as possible. Cheers to a better year ahead, and enjoy an evening filled with good vibes and good company.
The City of Austin’s official New Year’s Eve celebration will be a virtual event highlighting pre-recorded concerts from favorite local bands at iconic venues around town, including Antone’s Night Club, Mohawk and Cheer Up Charlies. The Japanese restaurant is offering an elevated New Year’s Eve experience complete with Covid-19 safety precautions. Guests will have the option of selecting two seatings on New Year’s Eve – a dinner featuring a special menu from 5 to 9 p.m. or a night with an upscale, relaxed izakaya menu from 10 p.m. until close. Toast to the New Year with a sake-tini or champagne, and don’t forget to make reservations for the cant-miss evening.
This year, Speakeasy’s annual New Year’s Eve Bash will have reserved, socially-distanced seating arrangements so guests can enjoy the new year safely. Ticket packages range from rooftop patio seating to exclusive access passes to all three rooms of Speakeasy, along with complimentary champagne at midnight, fun party favors and balloon drops.
Austinites can celebrate the end of 2020 at 77 Degrees, located in the Rock Rose district of Domain NORTHSIDE. The rooftop bar offers spacious outdoor seating, and visitors have the option of reserving a VIP table or buying general admission tickets. All packages include food and drinks specials and reservations can be booked by calling 512-589-2925.
Hosted by Alamo Drafthouse and Legion M., the Alamo virtual team has digitally recreated the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. On New Year’s Eve, explore the Highball, karaoke rooms and theaters as an 8-bit avatar. The virtual party, dedicated to filmmaker and actor Nicolas Cage, will include a special screening of Mandy plus interactive activities, photo booths, video installations and much more.
Starting at 8 p.m., the Rainey Street bar is hosting a New Year’s Eve party with a music performance by DJ Phoenix and a complimentary champagne toast when the clock strikes midnight. Expect festive lights and lasers — plus a fun-filled night on the bar’s heated patio. General admission tickets are free, but entry is based on capacity. Bottle service are available for table reservations.
