Renovation royalty, Chip and Joanna Gaines, are currently selling their biggest Fixer Upper project to date. An auction is underway for new owners to purchase the historic Waco, Texas castle that the Gaines couple spent years of work to rehab — giving new polished glory to a once-neglected architectural gem. Known as the Cottonland Castle (located at 3300 Austin Avenue), this amazing property was featured in a special Magnolia Network series in which Chip and Joanna gave a detailed inside look at the three-year restoration and revamping progress.

Having purchased this structure in disrepair in 2019, it was quite an impressive undertaking to renovate the property. “The best part about restoring a property with this much history is the opportunity to unearth beauty that’s always been there from the beginning,” Joanna wrote in a 2019 issue of Magnolia Journal. “As we started to clear all the plywood and old debris, we got to really see all of the gorgeous details inside.”

Historic Grandeur Meets Modern Functionality

The three-story, 6,700-square-foot residence has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, seven fireplaces, and sits on 1.5 acres in the heart of Waco. The castle’s original construction was started in 1890 and finished in 1913. The beautiful castle was modeled after a Rhine River castle in Germany. Part of Waco’s Castle Heights neighborhood, this home is a designated historic landmark by the Texas Historical Commission.

Thanks to Joanna’s wonderful sense of style, the interiors are quite warm and inviting. You can expect antique tiles, beautiful woodwork, mahogany paneling, custom built-ins, original wainscoting, ceiling medallions, diamond-paned windows, and endless charm. The castle now boasts a card room, formal library and conservatory, as well.
