Rainey Street is home to bars and restaurants galore. A stand-out amongst them is Half Step Bar, a cocktail lounge serving up modern takes on classic cocktails in their cozy indoor space and biergarten-style patio.

The bar, recently announced as a top four finalist for Best U.S. Bar Team by the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, crafted the on-menu Artist’s Special cocktail with Highland Park whisky for the summer season.

Inspired by Harry MacElhone’s “1927 Barflies and Cocktails,” the cocktail emphasizes the whisky’s complex citrus and honey flavors.

“The floral notes from our homemade pomegranate grenadine help accent the floral notes found in Highland Park 12-year,” says bartender Patrick Joyce. “Highland Park also has notes of citrus and honey which pair well with the nuttiness of the Amontillado Sherry in the Artist’s Special cocktail.”

Artist’s Special | Half Step

Ingredients

1.5 oz Highland Park, 12-Year-Old
.75 oz Amontillado Sherry
.75 oz lemon juice
.75 pomegranate grenadine

Instructions

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled coupe glass.
Garnish with a lemon swath.
