The Team Behind Jack Allen’s Kitchen to Open the Day Maker Half Day Cafe — New Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch Spot Near Zilker Park
The casual daytime restaurant backed by Jack Gilmore and Tom Kamm will open in Austin this fall
Backed by Jack Gilmore and Tom Kamm of Jack Allen’s Kitchen and Salt Traders Coastal Cooking comes Day Maker Half Day Cafe. Chef Forrest Briwa is leaping to the space next to the Zilker location of Salt Trader’s with a seven-days-a-week breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. The former IHOP will be hopping with a buzzy vibrance of diners indulging in classic weekend favorites well into the work week.
Their all-week schedule opens up the possibility for future guests to wash away midweek blues with a classic brunch cocktail like a Bellini or one of their specialty “Day Drinkers” with freshly squeezed juices and non-alcoholic libations all curated by Beverage Director David Toby. The laptop set can also belly up to their walk-up coffee bar for a high-energy break in their work-from-home routine for a more substantial lunch.
Chef Briwa’s new menu plays with the classics alongside a more Texas twist on breakfast with dishes like Texas Brisket Hash and Layered Breakfast Enchiladas. Diners looking for a meatier bite can nosh on what the Day Maker team claims is a “hangover-curing breakfast burger” or their Big Belly Pastrami sandwich. “We’re known for our high standard of hospitality and getting people’s favorite dishes out on the table at Jack’s and Salt Traders,” Tom Kamm shares in a press release, adding, “Day Maker will continue this tradition with a new take on breakfast and lunch.”
It’ll be a welcome addition for the road warriors of Bee Cave Rd. and MoPac, as direct access and ample parking means it should be a welcome reprieve from the typical drive-thru options lining the main roads and highways. Situated so near to Zilker Park, the Day Maker Half Day Cafe also provides a great option to fuel up for a day out at the pool or park any day of the week.
