Miracle on 5th Street Returns to Downtown Austin for Sixth Year
The holiday pop-up will serve lavish seasonal cocktails and snacks at The Eleanor through Dec. 27
Save room on your holiday calendar for the sixth annual Miracle on 5th Street. The Christmas-themed pop-up cocktail bar franchise has once again set up shop at The Eleanor, turning the event space into a two-story winter wonderland open to all ages through Dec. 27.
The concept, which now boasts more than 100 locations throughout North America, Europe. Central America and Asia, is the brainchild of Greg Boehm, owner of Manhattan’s Mace. In 2014, Boehm was preparing to open the bar in the East Village when he decided to pause construction to transform it into a temporary holiday-themed space with lavish drinks. In addition to the seasonal festivities, Miracle on 5th also benefits local charities, and donations can be made through the website.
The masterminds behind the Austin iteration include the owners and staff of The Roosevelt Room and The Eleanor, along with members of the Mace team and Cocktail Kingdom, a leading bar tool company. It took more than two weeks to decorate the venue, which was transformed into a kaleidoscopic display of colored lights, decorations, garlands and decked out trees. The cozy Ski Lodge boasts an additional, smaller bar and the classic Shot Ski.
“The pop-up is an iconic part of Austin’s holiday season,” says Curtis Jano, bar manager of The Eleanor. “We’re looking forward to creating festive memories with the community again this season.”

Signature drinks were designed by Miracle on 5th cocktail connoisseur Joann Spiegal and include hot and cold libations and shots, as well as beer and wine. Besides elevated versions of eggnog and hot buttered rum, there’s the Christmaspolitan (Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, rosemary, lime, absinthe mist), the Here’s Johnny! (Johnny Walker High Rye Blended Scotch, Campari, Benedictine, Blanc Vermouth, Lustau Pedro Ximenez Sherry, mulled wine reduction, vanilla, mole, lemon oil) and the Mistletoe Shot (George Dickel Rye Whiskey, gingerbread, winter spices). Expect festive barware with drinks like the SanTaRex, which is served in a dinosaur vessel, as well as wildly colored cocktails, costumed staff and plenty of ugly Christmas sweaters.
One of the best reasons to attend, beyond the eye-popping decorations and festive revelry, is to support some of Austin’s most important nonprofits. Ten percent of all proceeds from sales of Miracle merch, including glassware and to-go cocktails that are available from a booth at the front of the venue, go to The SAFE Alliance, a merger of Austin’s Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, and Austin Pets Alive!. Additionally, a portion of all Miracle Mug sales benefit the Seva Foundation, a nonprofit that builds sustainable eye care systems worldwide.
“We’re honored to partner with four charities and give back to the community on a local and global level,” says Justin Lavenure, owner of The Roosevelt Room and The Eleanor. “By doing so, we hope to make the holiday season a little brighter in a bigger and more impactful way.”
Miracle on 5th Street is a ticketed event. General admission entries can be purchased in advance here.
