Waterloo Greenway’s Pop-Up Picnic Celebrates 10th Anniversary at New Waterloo Park

Basket sales open this week for Austin’s favorite community picnic

Waterloo Greenway Conservancy’s Pop-Up Picnic fundraiser will return to Austin on Saturday, April 9, celebrating its 10th anniversary with many exciting developments.

After taking a pause in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, Waterloo’s signature event is back and gathering Austinites to enjoy all our city has to offer. This year, it will take place at the gorgeous greenspace Waterloo Park for the first time ever. It will also be the biggest of their picnics, with an estimated 2,000 participants coming to mingle in the 11-acre space.

Open to everyone, attendees will be able to relish in the spring evening from 6 to 10 p.m. with a delicious meal, great company and DJ sets on stage at Moody Amphitheater.

“Pop-Up Picnic is such a fun way to support this amazing, growing park system,” said Picnic Co-Chair Lauren. “And in the newly reopened Waterloo Park, this year’s event will be our best yet. More room for more friends and neighbors to come together, spread blankets on the Great Lawn, enjoy delights from Austin’s favorite restaurants and watch the sun set over Waller Creek.”

Curated picnic basket dinners are one of the main attractions to the gathering, with some of Austin’s best chefs and restaurants creating the perfect outdoor meal. Feast upon offerings from restaurants such as Easy Tiger, Home Slice Pizza, Lucy’s Fried Chicken, Franklin Barbecue, Hildee’s Texas Dine-Inn, MML Hospitality, Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, 68 Degrees/La Traviata and Uchiba, with even more to be announced.

An incredibly diverse mix of some of the most praiseworthy food talent in Austin, these curated baskets are a prized addition to a wonderful evening in the park. Mark your calendars now, as basket sales begin Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. and will sell out quickly. For those interested in attending but prefer to pack their own spread instead, a limited number of free Bring Your Own Picnic Tickets will be available as well. Be sure to also snag some raffle tickets online in advance for a chance to win exciting prizes.
