Summer has officially arrived in Central Texas, which means you’re probably looking to take a break and have a good time with friends and family. Fredericksburg is a quick and easy getaway that’s only a short drive from Austin and it is home to more than 50 wineries, gorgeous Hill Country scenery, shops, restaurants, hotels and plenty of fun.

Here are six reasons to visit Texas Wine Country this summer:

It’s in Your Backyard, Almost

Fredericksburg and Texas Wine Country are near the geographic center of the Texas Hill Country – making it an easy, scenic hour-long drive west of Austin.

Long-Lasting Traditions

The area’s wineries have been producing a variety of quality wines that have won both state and national honors. Wine production dates back to the town’s founding in 1846 (yes, Fredericksburg is celebrating its 175th birthday in 2021), when the original settlers used the native mustang grape to make wines. Today, Texas Wine Country produces everything from sweet wines, rosés, dry whites and dry reds, so you are sure to find your favorite.
