In between the hustle and bustle of all-day-event-hopping during SXSW you’ve got to eat, right? Whether you’re looking for a quick meal between stops or dinner to get away from the crowds, we’ve compiled a list of our go-to eateries.

DURING THE FEST:

Star Bar

“The original West 6th street bar”, as they call it, is going mobile for SXSW. Star Bar is launching their new food truck, MASA, during SXSW. The menu will be a shorter one with hits from it’s father menu such as stuffed jalapeno’s, hush puppies, empanadas and more. Find them here.

My Name is Joe

Start your SXSW journey off with a hot cup of joe and breakfast at “My Name is Joe.” The food truck, sitting on the corner of 6th and Colorado, is serving up hot coffee and morning noms to fill your stomach for a full day of fun.

Delicious

Got a few minutes between two events? Grab a sandwich on the go at Delicious. Order anything from a grilled cheese to their signature Herb Turkey “sando” for a quick and appetizing refueling. Not to worry if you aren’t rushing, Delicious offers soups, salads and appetizers if you have the time to sit and stay awhile.

Forthright

Take a breather from the crowds and duck into Forthright, located on the corner of Cesar Chavez and Brazos. The cafe style dining offers everything from coffee to cocktails and avocado toast to burgers. Take a pre-fest look at the menu here.

AFTER THE FEST:

Mezcaleria Tobala

This bar above a bar offers a more intimate climate than the fast pace, crowded rush of SXSW. Relax with a drink as the sounds of the Spanish guitar serenade you. While there, don’t miss out on sipping on a few mezcals served in traditional glasses.

Red Ash

A Tribeza favorite (featured as our January food pick), Red Ash is the perfect place to wind down with dinner after a long day. The italian style dining has everything from oil-and-herb-covered bread (truly a wonder) to wild halibut on the bone. Check out our article here for more on the cuisine.

Fonda San Miguel

June’s All Day

Open all day, as the name says, June’s All Day opens bright and early at 8 am. Under the McGuire Moorman family, June’s is the newest cafe opened alongside Josephine House and Perla’s, and delivers amazing breakfast goods as well as tasty lunch and dinner entrees.

Lastly, for anyone carrying a badge or a guest pass, Southbites Trailer Park houses food trucks from local Austin staples, such as Tribeza faves: Chi’lantro, Wholly Cow Burgers, Juice Austin, Lick Honest Ice Cream and more. No matter where you go or who you see, make sure to stay hydrated and sated to maximize your fun.
