Unwind at San Antonio’s La Cantera Resort & Spa with Meditative Sunset Floats and a New Women’s Speaker Series
Just a short drive from Austin, this resort offers new ways to refresh and recharge along with restorative treatments at their luxurious spa
We all know that it’s important to take time for self care, but how many of us really have any idea how to fit this into a busy schedule? Always on the go and juggling work, family, relationships, and a multitude of daily tasks, it’s no surprise why many women struggle with stress. Interestingly, the woman-led leadership team at La Cantera Resort and Spa was inspired to add new elements of self care to their roster of activities and amenities at this award-winning San Antonio property — now offering an engaging speaker series designed to help women wind down, make meaningful connections, and garner inspiration from others.
La Cantera’s Engaging New Speaker Series
Camila Frederico, La Cantera’s General Manager, created this new “Women & … Series” to spotlight incredible women in art, wellness, music, fashion, and sports who are making a difference and impacting others. Each of these quarterly programs also connects with a local charity to give back a proceeds of ticket sales.
With a close proximity to Austin, La Cantera Resort & Spa is a popular local getaway for its world class spa, championship golf course, breathtaking infinity pools, family activities, and more. It’s no wonder that it was named the #1 Resort in the Southwest by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Just steps from La Cantera shopping and entertainment such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and only about 20-minutes northwest of San Antonio’s beloved River Walk, La Cantera already has plenty to offer. However, this new programming elevates their experiences. It creates an additional way to foster personal connection and community-building — which we were excited to discover.
Women & Wellness at La Cantera Resort & Spa
We recently packed our bags for a stay to explore the Women and Wellness programming firsthand. This thought-provoking and inspiring event centered around the topic of mental health. The afternoon session was moderated by Nancy Cheak-Zamora, MA, PhD, a professor of public health at UTSA. The event featured guest speaker Joan E. Childs, a renowned author and wellness expert. Childs shared many of her personal musings and stories of her own journey. Her profound insights on the mind-body connection and the transformative power of self-care left us in an introspective state.
Following the inspiring session, we gathered for a fabulous al fresco group dining experience on the patio of at La Cantera’s Sweetfire Kitchen. The chef prepared a marvelous dinner paired with a wine tasting from Fredericksburg’s popular William Chris Vineyards. Flowers and fruits adorned the long, communal table creating an elegant setting. We enjoyed each bite, sip and conversation.
After dinner, we ventured over to the adults-only pool at sunset. As the sky changed colors from day to night, we embarked on a meditative journey unlike any we had experienced before. Stepping into large floats in the pool, we laid down and settled in for a guided mediation and sound bath experience while peacefully and gently bobbing along the water. It was truly a remarkable way to end such an enchanting day. (Note that this is a custom experience for groups. It can be booked by inquiring with the staff at Loma de Vida Spa.)
Unwinding at Loma de Vida Spa
During our two-day stay at La Cantera Resort, we also enjoyed a relaxing and rejuvenating spa day at Loma de Vida. The spa was already set to top-notch standards because it had come so highly recommended from friends in Austin. However, the experience exceeded our expectations. The modern facility is surrounded by a lush landscape of flowers, native plants and water features. The setting offered an immediate sense of calmness. Situated on one of the highest points in San Antonio, the spa offers breathtaking views. Stepping inside Loma de Vida felt like an actual sanctuary. While you can expect traditional spa offerings (massages, facials, etc.), they also provide many the latest in trends and techniques. Loma de Vida offered a day of pure delight. (We highly recommend viewing the spa’s activity calendar before you go. Book yoga classes, meditation, and sound bowl sessions.)
While you can expect traditional spa offerings (massages, facials, etc.), they also provide many the latest in trends and techniques. We opted to try one of Loma de Vida’s newest treatments, the OTO CBD massage. This is designed to align with your daily circadian rhythm, offering three categories of intent — focus, amplify or balance. This therapeutic massage aims to reset the body’s energy and muscle flow. We felt incredibly relaxed post-massage, and also enjoyed the spa’s steam room, sauna, and private pool. Loma de Vida offered a day of pure delight. Restaurants and Amenities Aplenty
Our stay at La Cantera Resort & Spa was intentionally planned to focus on our health and well-being, but with that came some exploration of the resort’s fantastic amenities. From the nature trail, fitness rooms, tennis courts, pools, hot tubs, and more, we found our moments busy with activities suited to our interests. We had a fabulous meal at Signature, the resort’s most elevation dining option which transports you to the French countryside.
The Villas at La Cantera
In addition to eating our way through the resort’s many dining options, we also had the chance to view the many guest accommodations as well. The resort’s main guest rooms are all set for a remodel soon, which we’re sure will be a lovely transformation, but it was the Villas that caught our attention for our next return.
The Villas at La Cantera are among the most exclusive, luxuriously-appointed accommodations that offer more of a residential feel. The Villas feel like a hideaway on the property and are ideal for a couple looking for privacy, a family looking for more room to spread out, or a larger group (such as a family + grandparents) wishing to vacation together. Each villa includes personal outdoor patios along with plush accommodations, access to complimentary golf carts, and a private pool. Here you can have your own private space while enjoying access to the resort’s plentiful amenities.
While we came to indulge in personal time, we left inspired to return with the whole family soon for a quick summer getaway. La Cantera Resort & Spa is truly a special place, and we look forward to enjoying memorable moments to come.
