Austin Street Renamed to “Wes Anderson Lane” for the month of November
Alamo Drafthouse and City of Austin teamed up for the tribute to the iconic director and native Texan
Wes Anderson, the filmmaker known for his eccentric aesthetic and narrative styles, is receiving a great honor from his home state.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and the City of Austin have rechristened the road previously known as West Anderson Lane to “Wes Anderson Lane.” The rename celebrates the Houston-born artist and University of Texas alumni whose whimsical stories continue to bring joy and beauty not just to Texans, but to movie-goers around the world.
“Honoring the mighty who have been forged in and by Austin has always been an important role of our city’s leader,” says Alamo Drafthouse Founder and Executive Chairman Tim League. “We are proud that Mayor Steve Adler has bestowed this incredible honor on Wes Anderson, a true titan of cinema. The accolade is well deserved.”

The cinematic talent himself thanked Mayor Steve Adler and Alamo Drafthouse in a recent video and expressed his hopes to visit Austin and see the street sign in-person. “Wes Anderson Lane” will remain in place for the month of November, while Anderson’s latest critically-acclaimed arthouse success, The French Dispatch, is playing in theaters nationwide.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will further be creating buzz for the beloved director with an Instagram photo sweepstakes in search of the ultimate Wes Anderson fan. Those interested in entering are encouraged to submit photos of their pets dressed as their favorite Wes Anderson character and add the hashtag #WesAndersonLane to be considered for a once-in-a-lifetime printing experience with a cast member from the film.
The grand prize winner will be flown to New York City to attend a screening of The French Dispatch and meet a special guest in The Press Room at the brand new Alamo Drafthouse Manhattan location. Together they will hand crank the theater’s 1938 Vandercook Letterpress to create an edition of The French Dispatch magazine from the film.
