Celebrating the Paramount Theatre with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
The Paramount Theatre hosted its Anniversary Gala supporting the historic preservation of Austin's oldest theaters
On Saturday, May 11, The Paramount Theatre hosted its annual Anniversary Gala, an event dedicated to supporting the historic preservation of Austin’s oldest theatres and their award-winning education programs. This year’s celebration marked a significant milestone, commemorating 109 years of the Paramount and 89 years of the State Theatre.
The evening was inspired by the headliner, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, and the iconic 70s and 80s clubs where Jett first made her mark. In a nod to this legendary era, Congress Avenue was transformed into a vibrant two-block dive bar, complete with dancing in the street, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the rock and roll clubs of yesteryear.
Rock ‘n’ roll, gourmet cuisine, and silent auctions
Guests were treated to a night of entertainment, featuring not only the rock ‘n’ roll sounds of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts but also an array of culinary delights. The event showcased the talents of some of Austin’s most renowned chefs. Chef Michael Fojtasek of MaieB Hospitality, Chef Fiore Tedesco of Bambino and L’Oca d’Oro, Chefs Jay Huang and Adam Weisberg of Nômadé Cocina and Lucky Robot, and Chef Fermín Núñez of Suerte and Este, all contributed their expertise to create a memorable dining experience for attendees.
In addition to the live music and gourmet cuisine, the gala included silent auctions, offering guests the opportunity to bid on unique items and experiences. These auctions are a vital part of the fundraising efforts, helping to ensure the continued preservation and operation of these historic theatres.
The Paramount Theatre’s Anniversary Gala not only celebrated the rich history of these iconic venues but also highlighted the community’s commitment to preserving Austin’s cultural heritage. As the theatres continue to thrive and evolve, events like this gala play a crucial role in maintaining their legacy and supporting educational programs that inspire future generations.
