Dimmitt Contemporary Art Opens New Austin Location
Renown Houston-based art gallery celebrates grand opening in Clarksville with SURGENCE exhibition this February

Dimmitt Contemporary Art will celebrate the grand opening of its newest gallery in Austin with an inaugural exhibition, SURGENCE. The SURGENCE exhibition and grand opening event will take place on Saturday, February 17, from 5-8 p.m. at 1406 West 6th Street. This group exhibition running through March 30, serves as a celebration of the gallery’s expansion, featuring a variety of diverse works by its skilled national and international artists across various mediums.
“We want to highlight all of our artists, getting a variety of mediums that all work together and play off of each other,” said the art director Bailey Connelly.
An impressive lineup of artists, including Kristin Moore, Michael von Helms, Nadia Yaron, Gregory Hayes, Sara Genn, and many others, will contribute to this dynamic exhibition. Their collective works reflect the gallery’s commitment to presenting a rich tapestry of contemporary art.
Dimmitt Contemporary Art, known for its presence in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood, expands its footprint into Austin’s Clarksville Historic District. With a primary focus on rotating exhibitions, the gallery aims to deepen relationships with collectors, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for contemporary art.
According to the owner Kathy Dimmitt, the new Austin location perfectly encapsulates the essence of both the gallery’s vision and the city’s eclectic vibe. “Our way of working with artists and our personalities – the bungalow house and its laid-back feel is perfect for us,” said Dimmitt.
Dimmitt Contemporary Art prides itself on curating a collection that diverges from the mainstream, opting for artists that offer unique perspectives and distinct voices. “We try to find artists that aren’t in like eight galleries in the United States. I like to get something different,” explained Dimmitt, emphasizing the gallery’s commitment to showcasing emerging talents alongside established figures.
In line with its commitment to accessibility, Dimmitt Contemporary Art ensures that financial constraints do not limit art appreciation. “We have a range of art at different price points. I don’t want it to be intimidating purchasing art,” stated Dimmitt.
As Dimmitt Contemporary Art embarks on this exciting new chapter in Austin, the gallery invites art enthusiasts to join them in celebrating the spirit of SURGENCE. With light bites, wine, and drinks available at the opening, attendees can look forward to an evening filled with creativity, community, and the transformative power of contemporary art.
