Known for its elegant and sophisticated atmosphere featuring an enchanting interior design by acclaimed Kelly Wearstler, the Austin Proper Hotel offers guests and locals a beautiful setting unlike like any other in downtown Austin. It’s posh and chic, while also charming and intimate.

The mix of elegance and warmth continues just behind the lobby’s front desk into the Austin Proper’s most exclusive space, Goldie’s. A delightfully splendid small lounge featuring a marble sunken bar, plush seating and wallpaper adorned with roses and golden warblers, Goldie’s provides a perfect setting for a celebratory cocktail, a romantic evening, or a classic afternoon tea.

We recently visited Goldie’s for their Proper Tea, and we were impressed by every aspect of the tea service. Taking inspiration from classic Southern tea rooms, the Proper Tea is offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 p.m. by reservation only. The elevated atmosphere and menu offerings make it an ideal option for special occasions.

Choose from a curated selection of seasonal teas, health-focused teas that are rich in antioxidants, and herbal and fruit-forward teas. Or opt for champagne and sparkling wines. Menu highlights include classic butter scones, cucumber sandwiches, caviar canapes, French macarons, a strawberry shortcake tart, and more. A vegan option is also available by advanced request.

If brunch is more of your preference for weekend fare, we also highly recommended the Austin Proper’s restaurant, The Peacock Mediterranean Grill where brunch is offered on Saturdays and Sunday until 4 p.m. The menu is inspired by Mediterranean cuisine and features an indulgent french toast banana brûlée, a Greek omelette, and lamb meatballs with soft eggs, as well as light fare such as avocado toast with tomato jam.
