West Chelsea Contemporary, a contemporary art gallery located in the heart of Austin, produces museum-caliber exhibitions featuring world-class Blue Chip, modern and emerging artists. With varying exhibitions featuring a wide array of artists, from Salvador Dalí to Gary James McQueen to Hunt Slonem, the gallery is bringing some of the best art from around the globe right to Austinites’ backyards.

Its latest exhibition, Dopamine + Disintegration, is no exception and will have visitors clamoring to get a first look at the works that will have them considering the true essence of modern identity in today’s world. The show will run from March 8 to April 6, beginning with a public reception and artist talk on March 8 from 2-4 p.m.RSVP is required.

Dopamine + Disintegration is an electrifying collision of raw emotion, vibrant rebellion and provocative social critique. In their highly anticipated American debut, British artists Haris Nukem and Opake deliver art that hits like a gut punch – intense, unapologetic and impossible to ignore.

“As a gallery we are always looking to elevate Austin and bring world-class art to the city,” said Monica Quiñonez, Director of Marketing and Communications at West Chelsea Contemporary. “We are thrilled to invite the Austin collector community to Dopamine + Disintegration, a groundbreaking exhibition featuring the U.S. debut of British artists Opake and Haris Nukem.”

Nukem’s incandescent portraits dive into the hedonistic highs and vulnerable depths of modern identity, capturing the unfiltered essence of youth culture, self-expression and the search for meaning in an overstimulated world. Having exhibited at Maddox Gallery in London and collaborating with major brands like Warner Music and Universal, Nukem has cemented his place at the forefront of contemporary portraiture. His opulent use of color and theatrical compositions create allegories of contemporary existence – simultaneously intimate and mythological, fleeting yet timeless.

Opake’s graffiti-charged works deconstruct the nostalgia of pop culture, transforming iconic characters into fractured, layered compositions that speak to addiction, mental health and the erosion of collective memory. With works exhibited globally – from Japan and South Korea to Mexico and the UK (where he showcased at the renowned Saatchi Gallery in 2024) – Opake’s work is a raw and deeply personal reflection of struggle and renewal. Through his bold, chaotic reinventions, Opake critiques the commodification of culture, turning familiar figures into symbols of both decline and reinvention.

Dopamine + Disintegration presents a bold reimagining of survival, identity and pop culture, inviting viewers to confront the duality of existence – where euphoria meets decay, where nostalgia fractures into irreverence, and where art becomes both a confrontation and a catharsis.

In addition to outstanding exhibitions, West Chelsea Contemporary offers a variety of other services to help enhance local art aficionados’ experience, including private appointments for personalized art experiences, private events for both personal or professional outings at the gallery with the artworks as your backdrop, in-home consultations to curate your space and find the ideal piece to round out your home, home shows, virtual installations, custom framing and white glove delivery/installation once you do decide on your perfect piece.

West Chelsea Contemporary’s latest show promises to be an unforgettable journey into the visceral, the luminous and the unfiltered truths of contemporary life.
