When it comes to Austin’s vibrant music scene, you can’t help but think of the soulful sensation, Alesia Lani. Born and raised in the heart of Texas, Lani’s journey from a young poet to a celebrated R&B artist is as eclectic as her music. This summer, she’s set to grace the stage at the Long Center’s Drop-In series, bringing her infectious energy and soul-stirring melodies to music lovers of all ages.

With a voice that intertwines the soul of R&B with the heart of a poet, Lani effortlessly moves between genres, from soul and funk to rock and hip-hop. Her ability to write timeless music while staying true to herself sets her apart in the industry.

As she puts it, “I just do what I like and what I feel. I’m eclectic… authentic.”

Her album, “Self Titled,” released in Oct. 2023, is a testament to her raw talent and vulnerability as an artist. Each track feels like a glimpse into her diary, filled with honesty and transparency, but Lani doesn’t stop there. March brought us “Love Like Lo-fi,” a refreshing mixtape that showcases her versatility and creativity, providing a perfect soundtrack for those moments of relaxation and introspection.

“I wanted to make a love mixtape,” explains Lani. “I kept it real chill. It was a relaxing, decompressing album after ‘Self-Titled,’ where I talk about my divorce and a lot of things in my life.”

What truly sets Lani apart is her electrifying stage presence. She says she “falls into the vibe of each song,” alternating her physicality between genres. Known for her powerhouse performances that radiate primetime energy, she’s shared stages with legends like George Clinton and contemporary heavy-hitters like Lizzo and Childish Gambino. Now, she’s gearing up to bring that same energy to the Long Center.

When asked about her upcoming performance at the Drop-In Series, Lani couldn’t contain her excitement. “It’s gonna be hot as hell,” she says with a laugh. “But that 3D-printed stage? That’s something else.”

However, Lani isn’t just focused on the present moment. With a new video for “Breaking Me Down” in the works and plans to finish her upcoming album, she’s showing no signs of slowing down. With tour dates lined up for the summer, including recent shows at Antone’s and the Bastrop Pride Festival, there’s plenty to look forward to for fans of this rising star.
