Austin is known for live music, with plenty of it to go around. And for those nights when you’re ready to be the one behind the mic for a change, it’s also a popular haven for karaoke. So get together a group of friends — or venture out solo if you’re brave — to check out these local karaoke venues.

Established in 1979, Ego’s is perhaps the most iconic karaoke spot in town. Tucked away on South Congress, you’re always sure to find an interesting crowd (including some entertaining regulars on the mic) and unbeatable drink specials. With karaoke every night from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m., stop in any time for a lively session.

The Highball

Located at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, this cocktail bar elevates whatever ideas you have about karaoke. Explore their themed private rooms, each accompanied by a server and offering its own unique imaginative experience. These chambers are available for walk-ins only.

Hi Tunes

This karaoke center in Crestview offers private rooms where you can be the star of your own show. Open Tuesday through Sunday each week, enjoy their clean space and diverse song list that also incorporates international titles from Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia. Visitors are permitted to bring their own food and drinks.

The Common Interest

8440 Burnet Rd.

One of Austin’s older party spots, The Common Interest began as a piano bar in the summer of 1974. In 1989, the joint implemented karaoke and has since blossomed into one of the city’s most beloved places for performing without inhibitions. Open seven days a week, guests can either strut their stuff on the main stage or in a private room with buddies. Treat yourself to their mouthwatering food and drink menu after your concert.

Outer Heaven Disco Club

1808 East 12th St.

The self-proclaimed “only bar in Texas,” Outer Heaven has earned a cult-like customer base who believe in their mission to keep the real Austin alive amid the influx of unwitting transplants. Located on East 12th Street, it’s certainly one-of-a-kind and worth checking out. Weekend nights are for dancing, and Tuesday through Thursday the space is all about karaoke. With disco balls and colorful lights throughout, you’re sure to have a good time singing your heart out.

Hole in the Wall

2538 Guadalupe St.

A legendary live music venue founded in 1974, the Hole in the Wall sits on Guadalupe Street right across the street from the University of Texas campus. With a rich music history that includes the likes of Spoon and Shakey Graves, you can harness the energy of local music icons when you sing in the very same space! They offer karaoke from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday.

Seoulju ATX

9515 North Lamar Blvd. #230

With late-night Korean comfort food and a soju dive bar, make sure you try Seoulju’s award-winning food and drinks along with your karaoke session. The private karaoke room fits up to 20 people, and guests can order food and drinks while they sing. It’s only $30 per hour to rent the whole room, so bring all your friends for an incredible time.
