Heather Scott Design Transforms Barton Creek Residence into a Chic Retreat
Discover the art of tranquil living in this stunning home, where modern design and comfort converge flawlessly
Heather Scott Design has recently unveiled a design masterpiece of contemporary elegance within a new build that now captures the essence of an elegant resort. The project was for clients relocating from Aspen to Austin to be closer to family. They wanted their home in the new Amarra Villas in the Barton Creek community to feel like a sanctuary.
The clients’ desire for a chic resort vibe with modern touches, distinctive black and white accents and subtle equestrian details served as the guiding vision for Heather Scott Design. Raquel Skrobarczyk, the principal designer, says, “Each detail was intentionally planned with the client’s needs in mind and chosen for its purpose and beauty.”
The design team embraced high contrast throughout the home —playing with blacks, whites and neutrals to create a visually striking atmosphere. They layered various materials and finishes, which was important to the client.
Harmony in design with thoughtful details and natural materials
“We incorporated more masculine details and softened them with luxe upholstery,” says Skrobarczyk. The outside and interior are seamlessly integrated through thoughtful design. “Natural materials bring the outside in, and unique pieces make the home feel one of a kind,” Skrobarczyk says. One beautiful example of how natural materials were integrated is the tree root console table, their first purchase when they found it at Round Top — and that required eight men to transport it!
From its conceptualization to completion, the project spanned two years, a testament to the time and effort invested in every detail. The design team joined the client during construction, strategically selecting materials to set the tone for the entire home. Despite challenges in the construction and furnishings industries, the team navigated delays with agility, adjusting timelines and client expectations to ensure a seamless process.
Elevating comfort with high ceilings, natural light, and artful design
Among the highlights of the residence is the primary bedroom. The room encapsulates the clients’ favorite design aspects with high ceilings, abundant natural light and a careful selection of bold contrasts. Animal-inspired details include a custom-cut hide rug and a leather ottoman. Plush and durable upholstery was chosen with the homeowners’ two large Bernedoodles in mind, creating a luxurious and practical space. The chandelier is another favorite, made of plaster to replicate a cluster of branches.
Skrobarczyk fondly recalls the project as one of her favorite of all time, emphasizing the importance of the relationship with the clients. “Having a wonderful and trusting relationship with my clients is so important to me, and it makes a difference with the end result,” she says. This collaborative spirit allowed creativity to flourish, resulting in a home that exceeded expectations.
